Fighting Back Against Adult ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), long thought of as a disorder of childhood, has recently become more recognized in adults. Many of us understand the impacts of childhood ADHD - behavioral problems, academic struggles, social difficulties, strained relationships with peers and families - but less is known about how adult ADHD can impact your life.
Adults with ADHD continue to experience difficulties with restlessness, inattention, and/or impulsivity that can negatively impact their success at work, ability to keep track of important documents or pay bills on time, and relationships with others. Impulsivity could lead to legal problems, and substance use may become a factor if symptoms are not appropriately treated.
In the video below, I discuss how ADHD can affect relationships. All of the techniques discussed in the video can be effective for many of the challenges caused by ADHD. If you or your partner struggle with ADHD, watch to learn more.
In addition to what is discussed, there is emerging evidence that daily exercise, particularly in the mornings, and proper nutrition can help manage symptoms of restlessness and inattention. So, get organized, communicate openly, set reminders, eat right, and get active!

Note: Medication is also an appropriate treatment for ADHD. For more information about medication, talk to your medical provider.
